By choosing to earn your Master of Education through Liberty University’s® Graduate Studies, you can set that opportunity in motion.
Liberty University’s Master of Education program prepares you for effective leadership in Christian, public, and private schools. Courses provide specialized preparation for individuals seeking credentials for a K–12 school position or those with a desire to further their education and pursue either an Ed.S. or Ed.D. Along with core courses, you choose a specialization to gain in-depth knowledge in your chosen field. Specializations include Administration and Supervision, Teaching and Learning, Program Specialist, School Counseling.
This program is approved through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is a state-approved program for advanced licensure (reciprocity with other states) or endorsements. Learn more about program specific accreditations.

Transfer Credit
Transfer Credit Up to 6 hours of master's-level courses may be accepted, as applicable, into the Master of Education degree program (up to 12 hours in the School Counseling program). In order for transfer credit to be evaluated students must first apply and be accepted to the Master's program, then request a transcript evaluation by emailing the Registrar's office at registrar@liberty.edu. Only original, official, and unopened transcripts will be evaluated. Courses from a completed degree are not eligible for transfer. For more information regarding transfer credit, please call the Graduate Admissions office at (800) 424-9596, option 2.

Residency Requirement
There are no residency requirements for the Teaching and Learning concentration. All other concentrations have 9–12 hours of residency requirements.
Credit Hours
- 36 total hours (48 total hours for the School Counseling concentration)
- Up to 6 credit hours can be transferred in from an accredited and unconferred degree
Concentrations
Students with a Program Specialist concentration must choose a specialization. Students with a Teaching and Learning concentration may choose a specialization:

- Gifted

- Reading
- Early Childhood
- Teaching & Learning (2)
- Elementary Education
- Middle Grades
- Special Education
- General Education
Internship
A 3 credit hour internship/student teaching is a required part of the M.Ed. program.
Licensure
(1) Available for advanced licensure in Virginia— students pursuing these concentrations for licensure must already hold an initial teaching license.
(2) Licensure not available.
(3) No prior teaching license required
Two years of teaching or counseling experience required
- may be acquired during M.Ed. program
- may be acquired while employed as assistant counselor with provisional license
