Institutional Challenge Exam (ICE)

The Institutional Challenge Exam (ICE) is available to students with a satisfactory justification of previous knowledge in a subject area based upon a non-college training program, job experience, or self-learning as an opportunity to earn credit toward a selected degree program.

Qualifications

• Students must email the appropriate ICE Request Form to dlpice@liberty.edu.

• An ICE exam can only be taken once per course.
• An ICE exam cannot be taken if the course is currently being taken or has been taken at Liberty.
• The minimum passing scores for upper- and lower-level courses are set at a "C" grade level.
• The test for a course must be taken in one sitting.
• Tests must be completed no later than one month from the time the student receives access to the test.

Restrictions

• It is the privilege of the faculty to disapprove an ICE exam request from a student.
• Credits earned through ICE do not count toward the minimum number of hours that have to be taken through Liberty in order to have a degree conferred.

Fees

• A $50 administrative fee will be assessed whether the exam is passed or failed, and will be billed to your Liberty account.
• A $15 per credit hour fee will be assessed if the exam is passed. This will be billed to your Liberty account.

The following information is only intended for students registering for ICE and/or LHBI/WSB portfolio validation exams.

(I)nstitutional (C)hallenge (E)xams are administered through Liberty University’s learning management system, Blackboard.  Students complete these examinations completely online.  The majority of the exams are objective test questions.
